Privacy Policy for Big If True

Effective date: July 21, 2026

Big If True is a Chrome extension by Verso Lab LLC (“Verso”, “we”) that fact-checks web pages and Google Docs you choose. This policy explains what data we handle, where it goes, and how you stay in control. We wrote it to be read.

Questions or requests? Email us at [email protected].

The short version

  • We only see pages and documents you actively ask us to check.
  • We send that text to our servers and to Google and OpenAI to run the fact-check.
  • We store your checks so you can revisit them. Email us and we delete everything.
  • We don’t track your browsing. We use no analytics, no ads, and we never sell your data.

What we collect

Your account. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture. We use them to run your account and reply when you contact us.

Content you check. When you start a fact-check, the extension sends us the page’s address, its title, and the text you’re checking — the full article or just your selection. We store this together with the results: the claims we found, the verdicts, the explanations, and links to the sources we cited.

Evidence you add. If you upload your own source documents, we store their text so the fact-check can use them.

Purchases. Payments run through Stripe. We never see your card number. We only store your credit balance and purchase history.

Technical logs. Our servers keep short-lived logs (like timestamps and error messages) so we can fix problems. These logs are not used to profile you.

What we don’t do

We don’t collect your browsing history. The extension reads a page only when you ask it to check that page. We don’t use analytics or tracking tools of any kind. We don’t show ads. We don’t sell or rent your data. We don’t use your content to train AI models, and neither do Google or OpenAI — both exclude API data from training under their policies. They keep only short-lived abuse-monitoring logs of what we send them: up to 7 days at Google, up to 30 days at OpenAI.

Who processes your data

We use a few services to run Big If True. Each receives only what it needs:

  • Google (USA) — its Gemini AI receives the text you check and finds the claims in it. Google also handles sign-in, and Google Docs access if you connect it (see below).
  • OpenAI (USA) — receives the text you check and any evidence you add, and searches the web to verify the claims.
  • Supabase (USA) — hosts our database and handles sign-in.
  • Railway (USA) — hosts our servers.
  • Stripe (USA) — handles payments.

Google Docs

Checking a Google Doc is optional, and you approve each document individually: before Big If True can read a document, Google shows you an approval window for that one file. The extension can never see the rest of your Drive, and it only ever reads the documents you approve — it doesn’t change, create, or delete anything. An approved document’s text goes through the same fact-check flow as a web page. You can revoke access anytime in your Google account settings.

Big If True’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Storage and deletion

We keep your fact-checks so you can revisit them. You can delete uploaded evidence files in the extension at any time.

To delete anything else — single checks, all your data, or your whole account — email [email protected]. We complete deletions within 30 days.

Security

Your data travels encrypted (HTTPS). Our database restricts every record to the account that owns it, and only our backend services hold the keys. The extension stores your session on your own device.

Your rights

You can ask us anytime what data we hold about you, request a copy, correct it, or have it deleted. Email [email protected] and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re in the EU or UK, these rights are backed by the GDPR; you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Big If True is not directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the effective date. For significant changes, we’ll tell you in the extension.
